It’s been a little over a year since we got our chickens and although I was super hesitant at first I’m totally hooked now and can’t imagine not always having the girls. They’re so fun to watch, they make us laugh all the time with their little personalities and wiggly butt runs and having fresh eggs daily a few steps out the door has been the biggest blessing. We’ve had our challenges figuring out how to keep them safe and comfy. There are a few tricks we learned along the way that I’m sharing here!

A cozy coop!
This coop has been so good to us and the girls this last year! It’s perfect size for the six of them. It’s easy to clean and access the eggs. It has a window for airflow in the summer. We also added a heating plate to keep them extra cozy in the winter. One of our favorite additions is the automatic door (although my hubby fought me on this one it’s now his favorite addition too lol). It is set on a timer so that it opens and closes at the same time everyday, but you can also set it with the light sensor for the changing seasons. The final item we added was a camera just to keep an eye on them and make sure they are all in there and good for the night! It’s also super comforting to be able to check in if we’re away for the day 🙂

Happy Homesteading,
Kenz
